SPRING FAVORITES

As the garden is waking up  and the crocusses, snowdrops and narcisses have gone, other plants are taking over. Three of my favorite Spring plants are starting to bloom.

EUPHORBIA CHARIACIAS IS ABOUT TO OPEN IT’S YELLOW BELL SHAPED FLOWERS

SKIMMIA JAPONICA KEW GREEN IS ALSO ABOUT TO OPEN IT’S FLOWERS

All tree of these plants bloom for a long time, but the skimmia already gets these flowerbuds in  Autumn so I think this is a good small bush for small gardens, all it needs is a bit of accid soil. There are male and female skimmia’s, the males get the flowers, the females get beautiful berries in Autumn, usually red but sometimes bright yellow.

All 3 of these plants attracts bees !

If you have any questions about plants I’ll be happy to answer them.

Have a great week all !

GIVE YOUR HOUSEPLANTS A BOOST

IMG_5333

It is time to give your houseplants a bit of tlc, they are probably covered in a bit of dust so you can easily brush that off with some old soft paintbrushes, the small ones for the nooks and crannies  (also handy for your cacti !!), the big ones for the big leafed plants. They’ll look better, they can breathe better and they can absorb the light better. Give them a bit of water and when the soils is moist again you can give them a bit of firtilizer, just a bit to start with.

Your plants will love you for this 😀

Have a great day !

WE HAVE A LODGER

IMG_5328

This water hen (coot) has been living in our garden for several weeks now. And she feels very much at home in and near our pond. It is a young female and I hope she’ll make a nest in our garden and get chicksn  (hopefully she’ll find a husband soon ). We can do what we like in the garden, she isn’t bothered, nor is she bothered by the dogs we have.

As you can see our garden is a mess at the moment, we leave the cleaning up till Spring, we don’t want to do it in the Autumn as that isn”t good for wildlife. Today was a sunny day so I did some work in the garden. But for the rest of the week they are expecting rain, and lots of it.

It feels so good to be able to do something in the garden and you can see that most of the plants are comming to life except for the late starters.

I can’t wait for the Summer to start .

I hope you’ll all have a brilliant week ! Have fun !!

EASY PLANT

ANTHURIUM, also called flamingoplant

As the weather keeps on being wet and windy I can’t start gardening now but I want to start as soon as possible.

So here is another indoor plant, Anthurium (flamingo plant) pretty and easy to keep as long as it doesn’t get direct sun, light : yes, sun : no. And it wants to be watered weekly. They come in all colours and can become quite big with a bit of tlc. And you can use the flowers and leafs for flower arrangements.

Have a great weekend !!

ONE OF MANY

EUPHORBIA SPECIES

As it is not much fun to be out in the garden at the moment I’ll show you one of my favorite indoor plants. We do have blooms in the garden but it is wet and windy and cold at the moment.

This  one is a member of the huge EUPHORBIA family, some come with leafs, others with spines and some even have both leafs and spines. I am the proud owner of several euphorbia spieces, in my home and in my garden . They all get tiny yellow flowers. And they bloom for a long time.

I hope you are all ok and having fun. Take care and thanks for visiting.

SOFT WET WINTER

We are having a soft wet Winter this time, we had a few mild frosty nights but that’s all so far, for tomorrow a severe storm is comming our way with lots of rain and very strong winds.

There are lots of plants budding as they think it’s Spring.

THIS SKIMMIA (SKIMMIA KEW GREEN) WILL SOON OPEN IT’S BUDS, AL LOT EARLIER THAN USUAL
AND THIS PASSIONFLOWER PLANT NORMALLY LOOSES MOST OF IT’S LEAFS IN WINTER BUT NOW IT STAYED TOTALLY GREEN AND IT IS ALREADY GETTING NEW LEAFS
MY CORCKSCREW HAZEL (CORYLUS AVELLANA “CONTORTA”) IS COMPLETELY OVERGROWN BY ANOTHER PASSIONFLOWER AT THE MOMENT
