BEGONIA FEST

I have no words to describe the beauty of the begonia, they are considered “old fashioned” at the moment but it is such an easy plant, a beautiful plant with beautiful leafs and all sorts of different shapes and colors of flowers. What is  NOT to like ??? They love a shady place but they can stand a bit of sun too if they get enough water. They grow from bulbs, you keep the bulbs dry and frost free during winter and you plant them again in Spring (inside until the frosts have gone), year after year after year. I know an old lady who said she had her begonia bulbs for over 50 years !!!!

I took some pictures for you so you can see for yourselves.

    1. Oh yes, when the first frosts come you remove the earth arround the roots and leave the bulbs to dry a bit (not completely) then remove what is left from the plant, wrap the bulb (one at a time) in a double sheet of newspaper, don’t forget to write down the color, and store them somewhere cool but frostfree. End of March you remove the newpaper and you’ll see it is still alive, sometimes it looks death but it isn’t, then put them in a bit of soil and water them but keep frostfree and when the good weather starts you can put them outside, it may look like a big job but it isn’t !!
