FIRST HERBS OF THIS YEAR
The first herb in my garden in Spring is Allium ursinum, also known as wild garlic, ramsons, bear leek and many more. Once you have it in your garden you’ll never get rid of it, in my part of the world that is. It is healty, tastes good and gives lovely edible flowers , not that I eat flowers, I can’t bring myself to it. If you don’t eat or pluck the flowers they will flower for a long time so you can plant them between other plants, once the flowers are done and have spread their seeds, the plant goes underground till next Spring. I have a part in my garden where they can go mad but I planted some in a pot.
ALLIUM URSINUM, certainly worth having in your garden, if not for eating then for the beautifull white flowers.

THE BEST GARDEN TOOL
For me this garden tool is worth it’s weight in gold ! Especially when you are not so strong. It it so much easier to remove weeds when you have this or when you want a space where you want to plant or sow. It is not so good to dig the gardensoil but this just tosses the soil without disturbing it too much and it removes the weeds and the roots in one.

FINALLY IN FULL BLOOM
Finally they are in full bloom, I have been waiting for it for so long now as they have been in bud a long time this year.
It is such a beautiful day with the sun, the blue sky and the warmth.
The buds of my syringa ( vulgaris “Beauty of Moscow”) against the blue sky, I love it ! But they still have a long way to go before they are in full bloom, I hope I will have many blooms this year. I always cut them all for inside as I looooove the smell !

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE FLOWER ARRANGING.
For all of you who like to do some flower arranging with things from your own garden : Corylus avellana contorta, the cork screw hazel.
Do not confuse it with the Salix babylonica tortuosa, the curly willow.
So I bought a cork screw hazel because of its beautiful curly branches you can use all year round for your flower arrangements, they are beautiful in Spring with the long yellow catkins and all Winter long it looks like you have a sculpture in your garden. If I need them in Summer I remove the leafs.

This tree is very winterhardy, even in zone 4( that is down to 30 -40 ) F°in the US and you can plant it up to zone 8. Elsewhere it can take temperatures of -25 C° and even lower. It is happy in all sorts of soil, doesn’t mind sea wind and grows up to 3 to 5 meters (10-16 feet ) high and 3 to 5 meters ( 7-15 feet) wide, it is slow growing and you can keep it “small” by cutting off the branches regularly. It even gives you hazelnuts if you have another hazeltree nearby.

For me this is a really good strong tree for my garden who gives me lots of branches I can use.

THERE IS HOPE AFTER ALL !!
Finally we are getting some real Spring weather , in between the rain, but when the sun is out : what a feeling , it is warm enough to sit outside for a while !!!
The crocusses in my front yard are so beautiful at the moment and when the sun is out they are buzzing cos of the the bees who seem to love them !

AN OLDIE
Narcis February Gold in my garden, taken a few years ago.
Alas I can’t sent you recent photo’s yet ! We just had a cold spell with snow and ice and severe frost, yesterday the weather changed and the snow melted, today my garden looks horrible and I am holding my heart cos I fear for some of my plants and bushes.
Today was soft and sunny so I did some work in the greenhouse, the soil in the garden is still hard. I am so looking forward to working in the garden again and see everything growing and flowering.

OAK TREE
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY GARDEN.
Nothing much I’m afraid. We are in the middle of a cold spell. We have had frosty nights and cold days for a few weeks now and for the next few weeks too I’m afraid. It is sunny during the day but cold! So nothing is really growing in the garden, the growing we had before the frost has come to a standstill. But I took a few pictures for you to see.
