TODAY IN THE GARDEN

FIRST FIG
THE LEAFS ARE STILL TINY, THEY WILL NEED TIME TO MATURE

I covered my fig during Winter, when we got our first beautiful Spring days I removed the coverings. Then all of a sudden we got a few unexpected nightfrosts and my fig tree took a beating, frozen tiny figs, frozen leafbuds…. But now it is slowly recovering and leafbuds are opening and here and there I finds tiny figs. The one above is the biggest. I fear I won’t have a lot of figs this year, as the first batch were frozen. But hey, my fig tree is still alive !

Have a great weekend !

  1. You’re right . The fig tree lives. Last year was the first time we made fig jam from our harvest. This year should be another good one. I only started growing that tree about six years ago– only because I watched an ancient Roman series, when nobles were eating fresh figs. So different from just store bought fig newtons (which my wife now bakes.) They’re now my favorite fruit.

    1. I have made fig jam in the past but the last couple of years the late frosts ruined a good crop. I still had enough to go to the garden and eat a few, straight from the tree, I love them !
