WINTER

We are having a bit of Winter, just a bit of frost and a bit of snow, nothing really out of the ordinary compared with what people in other countries get. I hope you are all safe and well.

I took the first pictures of 2025 as the frost made everything look a lot better.

Lonicera nitida, a wintergreen bush with small leafs but it grows really fast.

Euphorbia cariacias looking sad as they don’t like the cold.

My white camelia, already with buds.

Russian vine, taking over the garden, I think we need a professional gardener to remove it, it grows faster than the speed of light !!!! So beware and don’t plant it !!!!

Rhododendron in bud also as we had a soft and very wet Winter so far.

Viburnum tinus,a pretty wintergreen bush that can handle a bit of frost, it will soon bloom with soft white and pink flowers.

And my spineless holly who was already defrosting in the sun.

The frost makes the garden look very pretty and it brings a lot of the birds to our garden as we feed the birds and they have a bath in our pond. It doesn’t matter how cold it is, the birds want their daily bath.

Take care dear people and enjoy your gardens and balconies and keep safe !

BEWARE OF THE RUSSIAN VINE

Russian vine or Fallopia Baldschuanica is a climber but it grows about 10 meters (390 inches) a year and every little shoot or branch that hits the ground forms a new plant so before you know it it will have taken over your whole garden, your heges and trees included. I have it in my garden cos my husband needs it for his birds, he gives them fresh leafs every day, and it gives beautiful flowers. In Winter it looks completely dead.

I took some pictures to show you what I mean.

This is the culprit I am talking about, you can see it here in bloom growing on top of my beech hedge.

The flowers here are already over the top, it is late October now, normally the flowers look more like white plumes.( see picture above)

Here you can see it forms a new plant.

This is a view of the aviary that is completely covered by the russian vine, when the leafs are gone my husband cuts all the wood down to a few inches but in Spring it comes back to life and GROWS !!! I think I can say it is invasive !!!

Once you have it in your garden it is hard to get rid of.

Have a great weekend all !

TODAY IN MY GARDEN

We have a few nice days at the moment so I thought it was ideal to take a few pictures. It is definitely Autumn but there is still some beauty left.
