MY GARDEN IS LUSH AND GREEN

What with all the rain we have been having for many months my garden looks lush and green now, most flowers are far behind.

On the left you see a viburnum, on the right is my rosa guirlande d’amour

In the back you see my goatsbeard, it is not in bloom yet, the garden geraniums (macrorrhizum) are performing well.

The biggest green spot is from viburnum tinus, on the right is a laurel, on the left you see a bit of my syringa meyeri, a small lilac bush.

This is sedum spurium, winterhardy and makes a lovely green carpet.

This is our pond, completly overgrown, the plants just exploded, they seem to love all the rain.

Another garden geranium, geranium sanguineum, a small geranium that performs well.

They are not expecting good weather any time soon, the snails are having a party every night, for me that is the biggest worry, they have ruined a lot of my seedlings. But there are worse problems in the world, I feel for the people who’s house and everything in it is ruined, for the people who are trying to survive in the many wars all over the globe, who lost their kids and relatives….

Take care and enjoy your garden.

DO YOU SMELL THE ROSES ???

My roses were a few weeks later in bloom than other years cos of the cold and wet Spring we had, but now they are in full bloom and my garden smells of roses at the moment.

Rambling rose, rosa Guirlande d’Amour, I have it in my garden for almost 25 years and each year it blooms like this, we do not feed it nor do we water it. What you see now is the first bloom, after we cut all the faded flowers, it starts blooming again but not with as many flowers as you can see here, but it blooms till the first heavy frost. This rambler doesn’t grow as tall as the other ramblers, and it’s thorns are not as sharp as those of the other ones.

Rambler rose Francis E.Lester, a lovely rose, we cut it back last Winter to a few inches and it has grown again to 5 or 6 meters now , you can see all the buds, so it blooms for a long time, in Autumn it gets lovely orange rose hips for the birds. You can’t see it here but the thorns on the stems are horribly sharp, you really need very strong gloves to handle it.

Rosa Francis E. Lester.

This is rambler rose Seagull, a close relative of the rose Francis E. Lester, this one has horrible thorns as well. Ramblers use their thorns to climb in trees and bushes, normal climbing roses need to be tied to a bow or something else, they have long flabby branches who need a bit of help to climb. This one gets orange rose hips too, their thorns are equally sharp as the one’s from Francis.

Mind you, if you don’t cut ramblers back each year they’ll grow 10 to 20 meters high in a tree or over bushes.

The birds love climbing roses as they use them to hide from predators and to nest in them and in Winter they provide food. The roses are buzzing with all sorts of bees at the moment.

How many roses do you have in the garden ?

Have a great week and enjoy your garden.

WHAT IS STILL BLOOMING IN MY GARDEN TODAY

It definitely is Autumn now, cos of the drought it is early this year. But there still is a lot in bloom right now although you can see the flowers are a bit tired and the leafs are getting brown and yellow here and there. On top of it they had to go without my tlc while I was on holiday in France.

IT’S SEDUM SPECABILE TIME NOW AND I HAVE LOTS OF THEM

I hope you are all well and happy, wherever you are.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

My Guirlande D’amour rose is in bloom and my whole garden smells of roses at the moment. Guirlande D’amour is a rambler rose, half double, snow white and has a lovely delicate smell. I have this rose in my garden for about 20 years now and she is beautifull when in bloom. I give it a cut in Autumn, just the longest branches and then in Spring it gets a good cut and a bit of dried cow manure, thats it. It keeps blooming till the frosts come, not as much as it blooms in June though.

GUIRLANDE D’AMOUR TODAY, RESTING ON A WOODEN BOW

You can’t see anything of the wooden bow as it is completely covered by the rose. This rose is also the favorite place for birds to make their nest in and for the bees of course, they just love it. And so do I.

Have a great day and thanks for your visit.

IT LOOKS PROMISING

The roses in my garden have hundreds of buds that will soon open up and change my garden in a lovely smelling place. I can hardly wait !!
