GARDEN GERANIUMS

For all the people who don’t know garden geraniums ; they are fantastic plants and there are so many varieties you can choose off. They are reliable, they look stunning, they are winterhardy, they are cheap and soooo very easy, and the bee’s love them. I have a few in my garden.

If you are looking for good ground covering that grows everywhere, sun, shade, dry and moist, and surpresses weeds very well once they have been growing for about 3 years, they you need the Geranium macrorrhizum. He also doesn’t disappear in completely in Winter.

Flowers of the Geranium maccrorhizum, the plants flowers early in the year and flowers for a long time.

Another geranium, this is geranium sanguineum, a lot smaller than macrorrhezum but so cute and pretty, blooms for a very long time but disappears in Winter, but once the weather warms up, they are back again.

This is geranium Johnson blue, a stunner but needs more attention.

Geranium phaeum, a taller plant, airy and self seeding all over the garden, but he is not a nuisance. Attracts a lot of bee’s.

This is geranium macrorrhezum in white.

An there are so many other varieties, you can have garden geraniums flowering in your garden from Spring to Autumn.

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

We are expecting really hot tropical weather next week, I am not really happy with it , at the moment the garden is lush and green but hot weather can ruin a lot.

Have a great weekend !

PICTURES FROM THE GARDEN.

At the moment we get lots of rain, we welcome it with open arms. It has been so dry the past months and windy and hot, the drought was getting dramatic. Reserves are low as we have had several very dry years. Especially the farmers were getting desperate. It was even too dry to sow seeds.

But I took a few pictures of my garden when the weather was sunny and hot.

GERANIUM PHEUM

GERANIUM MACRORHIZUM (this is a superplant)

GERANIUM SANGUINEUM (blooms for a long long time)

The grapes are growing, the figs, the tomatoes and the peppers are growing so I am happy.

I am still working in the garden, trying to make it easier to maintain, less space for weeds as I am getting older, but lately it was just too hot for me, so when the rain is gone temperatures will be lower and it will be better to work.

Have a great weekend all !!

EASY PLANT :GERANIUM

If you are looking for easy plants in your garden then think of the geranium family, also called crane’s bill’s.

I am talking about the garden geranium, not the pelargonium that a lot of people call geranium as well, the garden geranium is hardy, the pelargonium is not.

They come in all colours, hights and shapes, they tolerate all sorts of soil, sun or shade, they don’t care. You can have geraniums in bloom from Spring till end of Autumn.  They also attract a lot of bees. They don’t disappear completely in Winter and that is a plus because then you know where they are. But they do selfseed, some more like others but personally I don’t care as they can be removed easily where you don’t want them.

I have taken pictures of the ones in bloom in my garden at the moment.
