MY GARDEN IS LUSH AND GREEN

What with all the rain we have been having for many months my garden looks lush and green now, most flowers are far behind.

On the left you see a viburnum, on the right is my rosa guirlande d’amour

In the back you see my goatsbeard, it is not in bloom yet, the garden geraniums (macrorrhizum) are performing well.

The biggest green spot is from viburnum tinus, on the right is a laurel, on the left you see a bit of my syringa meyeri, a small lilac bush.

This is sedum spurium, winterhardy and makes a lovely green carpet.

This is our pond, completly overgrown, the plants just exploded, they seem to love all the rain.

Another garden geranium, geranium sanguineum, a small geranium that performs well.

They are not expecting good weather any time soon, the snails are having a party every night, for me that is the biggest worry, they have ruined a lot of my seedlings. But there are worse problems in the world, I feel for the people who’s house and everything in it is ruined, for the people who are trying to survive in the many wars all over the globe, who lost their kids and relatives….

Take care and enjoy your garden.

GARDEN GERANIUMS

For all the people who don’t know garden geraniums ; they are fantastic plants and there are so many varieties you can choose off. They are reliable, they look stunning, they are winterhardy, they are cheap and soooo very easy, and the bee’s love them. I have a few in my garden.

If you are looking for good ground covering that grows everywhere, sun, shade, dry and moist, and surpresses weeds very well once they have been growing for about 3 years, they you need the Geranium macrorrhizum. He also doesn’t disappear in completely in Winter.

Flowers of the Geranium maccrorhizum, the plants flowers early in the year and flowers for a long time.

Another geranium, this is geranium sanguineum, a lot smaller than macrorrhezum but so cute and pretty, blooms for a very long time but disappears in Winter, but once the weather warms up, they are back again.

This is geranium Johnson blue, a stunner but needs more attention.

Geranium phaeum, a taller plant, airy and self seeding all over the garden, but he is not a nuisance. Attracts a lot of bee’s.

This is geranium macrorrhezum in white.

An there are so many other varieties, you can have garden geraniums flowering in your garden from Spring to Autumn.

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

PICTURES FROM THE GARDEN.

At the moment we get lots of rain, we welcome it with open arms. It has been so dry the past months and windy and hot, the drought was getting dramatic. Reserves are low as we have had several very dry years. Especially the farmers were getting desperate. It was even too dry to sow seeds.

But I took a few pictures of my garden when the weather was sunny and hot.

SNOWBALL (always a pretty sight in the garden)

CHIVES FLOWER ABOUT TO OPEN.

HOSTA
GERANIUM PHEUM

GERANIUM MACRORHIZUM (this is a superplant)

GERANIUM SANGUINEUM (blooms for a long long time)

The grapes are growing, the figs, the tomatoes and the peppers are growing so I am happy.

I am still working in the garden, trying to make it easier to maintain, less space for weeds as I am getting older, but lately it was just too hot for me, so when the rain is gone temperatures will be lower and it will be better to work.

Have a great weekend all !!

GOODBYE SUMMER

Summer was odd weatherwise. We had cool, we had hot and very hot. Bone dry but torrential rain once in a while but my garden is looking tatty. A few flowers are still standing but a lot has been scorched by the sun. Today is the last day of Summer weather, as of tomorrow it will gradually cool down and for the next 2 weeks we’ll get lots of rain.

SEDUM SPECTABILE, ALWAYS RELIABLE AND FUN FOR THE BEE’S AND THE BUTTERFLIES
MY FAVORITE SEDUM, SEDUM SPECTABILE ICEBERG
ALWAYS PRETTY, FUCHSIA MAGELLANICA
AUTUMN ASTERS WILL BLOOM TILL FIRST FROSTS
AS YOU CAN SEE, NOT EVERYTHING IS PRETTY IN MY GARDEN, MY CANNA’S WERE BURNED TO A CRISP BUT AS YOU CAN SEE THEY ARE GETTING NEW FRESH LEAFS.
MY FERNS NEAR THE POND
VERONICA VIRGINICA, ALWAYS THIRSTY
AMELANCHIER (SNOWY MISPELUS) LOOSING A LOT OF LEAFS
GERANIUM MACRORRHIZUM, WAS TOTALLY BROWN A WHILE AGO BUT GOT NEW LEAFS LATELY

The groundwater here is historically low, rainy weather is not fun but we need it, every single drop. Our local flora is dying cos they can’t stand the drought.

I hope you are all ok. Keep safe and take care !

WHAT SEASON ARE WE IN ??

It is the beginning of August and for us it is the middle of Summer but the heath and drought have ruined a lot of plants so now it looks like Autumn.

It is the second year in a row, I think we should start looking for plants that tolerate more heath and more drought.

AMELANCHIER
BURNED AMELANCHIER

I took this picture 2 days ago and now this tree is almost bare, all the yellow leafs have gone with the wind.

GERANIUM MACRORHIZUM

My gernaniums look all death, luckily I know they’ll come back when we have had a lot of rain and lower temperatures.

FERNS
HENS AND CHICKS (sempervivum)

Even the hen’s and chicks are burned !!!! I have put most of my plants in pots in the shade but as we may not use the waterhose cos of the drought, I have to water them by hand, a huge job.

Have a great weekend all !

EASY PLANT :GERANIUM

If you are looking for easy plants in your garden then think of the geranium family, also called crane’s bill’s.

I am talking about the garden geranium, not the pelargonium that a lot of people call geranium as well, the garden geranium is hardy, the pelargonium is not.

They come in all colours, hights and shapes, they tolerate all sorts of soil, sun or shade, they don’t care. You can have geraniums in bloom from Spring till end of Autumn.  They also attract a lot of bees. They don’t disappear completely in Winter and that is a plus because then you know where they are. But they do selfseed, some more like others but personally I don’t care as they can be removed easily where you don’t want them.

I have taken pictures of the ones in bloom in my garden at the moment.

I have more geraniums in my garden but they are not in bloom yet, I’ll show them later.

Have a great weekend !!
