SEE YOU NEXT YEAR 😀

STORY OF A TREE.

We are living in our house for 40 years now and at the beginning there was nothing in the garden apart from rubble and weeds. So we wanted to have some tree’s and shrubs in the back of the garden. One day my husband came home from work with a small seedling he found at the land that surrounded the company he worked for, he just pulled it out of the ground and planted it at the back of our garden. It was just really tiny and we didn’t have much hope this little thing would be come a huge tree. But it was brave and survived many difficulties, one of them being my crazy footballing sons. Now it is a huge tree, really huge and gives shade and harbours birds and squirrels and insects. It turned out to be a European oak tree, their leafs are tiny unlike the ones of the American oak tree and they are not as colourfull as the American oak tree but a few days ago the sun was shining and the leafs looked stunning against the blue sky so I took some pictures.

OUR EUROPEAN OAK TREE IS JUST TOO BIG TO PHOTOGRAPH IN ONE PIECE, THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE BRANCHES
HERE YOU HAVE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE LEAFS

He is always the last tree in the garden to get new leafs in Spring and he is always the last to loose them in Autumn.

In Belgium there is a law that says you can’t remove a European oak tree, not even when you want to build a house on the space the tree is situated. They can get very old.

I hope you’ll have a great weekend. Take care and keep safe !

ALWAYS THE LAST ONE

My Albizzia tree is always the last one to get new leafs in Spring, at the moment it is still completely bare  when all my other tree’s have fresh new leafs, but you can see the buds.

This morning I took a picture of part of my lilac (syringa vulgaris “beauty of Moscow) tree, look at all the buds !! I look forward to be able to smell the lilacs !

Take care and stay safe !

TODAY IN THE GARDEN

We have such nice weather at the moment, very sunny, bright blue sky, not too cold….what more do you want. I try to enjoy it as much as I can cos colder weather is on its way.

We have a very stubborn tree, our Amelanchier (juneberry) starts blooming every year on April 1st. But as we have had a lot of sun and soft weather we were sure it would bloom earlier this year. Just one little branch has been in bloom for about a week now and the rest is still in bud.

OUR WATERHEN (coot) STILL HASN’T FOUND A MATE YET, BUT SHE IS FEELING VERY MUCH AT HOME IN OUR GARDEN. LOOK AT HER BEAUTIFULL BEAK.

I am still very sad about my little dog who died suddenly last week, I miss her a lot.

Have a great weekend all ! Stay safe !!
