SILENT SUNDAY

about my garden, art and travelling, nature ,photography and a few words of wisdom

Summer was odd weatherwise. We had cool, we had hot and very hot. Bone dry but torrential rain once in a while but my garden is looking tatty. A few flowers are still standing but a lot has been scorched by the sun. Today is the last day of Summer weather, as of tomorrow it will gradually cool down and for the next 2 weeks we’ll get lots of rain.

The groundwater here is historically low, rainy weather is not fun but we need it, every single drop. Our local flora is dying cos they can’t stand the drought.
I hope you are all ok. Keep safe and take care !

The following pictures were not taken in my garden. We went for a walk yesterday in a park nearby.

RHODODENDRON

WILDE ROSE

ANGELICA ARCHANGELICAÂ (also known as the garden ghost or wild celery)

GUNNERA WITH A FLOWERBUD
It was a very enjoyable walk and I hope we can visit this place often, they have a huge rosegarden but it was too early for them.
Take care and stay safe ! Thanks for visiting.

WHITE DIGITALIS (foxgloves) WITH DRAGONFLY
It’s lilac time again ! Do you remember I showed you my lilac tree in bud 2 weeks ago ?
IT LOOKED LIKE THIS (syringa vulgaris Beauty of Moscow)

EXACTLY 2 WEEKS LATER IT LOOKS LIKE THIS

THIS IS A CLOSE UP, SOFT LILAC BUDS AND PURE WHITE FLOWERS

PRETTY AS A PICTURE ( I think)
As all the buds are blooming at the same time I put lots of them in vases for myself and the rest I gave to family and friends. Each year I remove all the flowers and each year I get lots of flowers back.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND ALL AND KEEP SAFE.

CLOSE-UP OFÂ SEMPERVIVUM FLOWERBUDS
We have such nice weather at the moment, very sunny, bright blue sky, not too cold….what more do you want. I try to enjoy it as much as I can cos colder weather is on its way.
We have a very stubborn tree, our Amelanchier (juneberry) starts blooming every year on April 1st. But as we have had a lot of sun and soft weather we were sure it would bloom earlier this year. Just one little branch has been in bloom for about a week now and the rest is still in bud.

JUST 2 SMALL FLOWER STALKS.

THE REST OF THE TREE LOOKS LIKE THIS; ALL FLOWERS STILL IN BUDD

MY SKIMMIA KEW GREEN IS BUZZING WITH BEE’S NOW THAT THE FLOWERS ARE OPEN

OUR WATERHEN (coot) STILL HASN’T FOUND A MATE YET, BUT SHE IS FEELING VERY MUCH AT HOME IN OUR GARDEN. LOOK AT HER BEAUTIFULL BEAK.
I am still very sad about my little dog who died suddenly last week, I miss her a lot.
Have a great weekend all ! Stay safe !!
We are having a soft wet Winter this time, we had a few mild frosty nights but that’s all so far, for tomorrow a severe storm is comming our way with lots of rain and very strong winds.
There are lots of plants budding as they think it’s Spring.

Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting !
