TODAY IN THE GARDEN

FIRST FIG
THE LEAFS ARE STILL TINY, THEY WILL NEED TIME TO MATURE

I covered my fig during Winter, when we got our first beautiful Spring days I removed the coverings. Then all of a sudden we got a few unexpected nightfrosts and my fig tree took a beating, frozen tiny figs, frozen leafbuds…. But now it is slowly recovering and leafbuds are opening and here and there I finds tiny figs. The one above is the biggest. I fear I won’t have a lot of figs this year, as the first batch were frozen. But hey, my fig tree is still alive !

Have a great weekend !

TODAY IN THE GARDEN

Spring is cold, too cold for the time of the year with night frosts, rain, snow, sleet, wind….. but it is definitely Spring according to my plants cos once in a while we get lovely sunny and soft days too.

Look what I found in the garden today.

APPLE BLOSSOM BUDS

Apple blossom buds and lots of them. I really hope I’ll get apples this year. Last year I had one apple tree with not a single flower and the other one had just 3 buds but I gave them a lot of food last year so now I have lots of buds. Keep your fingers crossed ! I’ll let you know in Autumn ok.

EASTER SNOW

Christmas was soft and wet, for Easter we got snow. I wish my plants could speak and tell me how they feel about all this.

It snows and then it melts, then again it snows heavily and then it melts, it’s ok for me but I worry about my plants as they are fragile after some warm weather we had, it is all in bloom or budding and we have frost at night…..

Have a great week all !

A BIT OF SPRING TODAY

We have a bit of Spring today, tomorrow will be Winter again ha ! But today is sunny and not too cold, when I have a walk in my garden with the dogs I hear a lot of buzzing from bees and bumble bees, I love that sound !! There are a lot of birds looking for nest material. The days are getting longer and I can smell it in the air. We are sure headding in the right direction.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHRUBS ; SKIMMIA KEW GREEN

When the flowers are open the whole shrub is buzzing, the buds appear in Autumn and soon the buds will open up. Very easy small shrub. Wintergreen and winter hardy, a gem in the garden. There are males and females, so if you want berries you need one of each.

Have a great week all !
