BULB IN BLOOM

We had our first frosts over here, yikes !!! We had so much rain lately so everything is very wet and then wham temperatures below zero, now my garden looks so sad. In the south they even had a layer of snow !! So all I can do is looking at the pictures I made of the flowers earlier this year.

NERINE bowdenii

This is a bulb-plant and comes in several colours and shapes. It is a relative of the Amaryllis.

You all know the amaryllis bulb as they bloom in December, most are bright red and huge but they come in many colours.

Nerine flowers in Autumn. They are not always winterhardy, they can take cold but not wet conditions. This one is nerine bowdenii and is one of the most hardy of them all. I found this one in an arboretum I visited earlier this year.

Have a great week, keep safe cos “the beast is back”.

JULY FLOWERS

We have a very odd Summer this year, cool and wet so I haven’t as many flowers as usually. Last year it was so hot I spent hours in front of the fan. This year we got airco and voila, we haven’t used it even once 😀 But hey, I am not complaining, I like this cooler weather.

MALVA
DAHLIA
ICE FLOWERS(mesembryantemum)
BEGONIA
ANOTHER DAHLIA
SOON TO BE FLOWERING : CROCOSMIA LUCIFER (bright red)
CUCUMBER HERB.(borage)

I just love the blue flowers of this herb. The plant is not really prettty but the flowers are. And it attracts a lot of bee’s.

I hope you are all well and happy. Take care and thanks for visiting.

TULIPS FROM AMSTERDAM

Well, not really from Amsterdam, I got them from my son. But tulips are known to come from Holland. They originally came from Turkey I think. But there was a time only the very rich could buy 1 or 2 bulbs, they were worth their weight in gold. I think at the moment they are the biggest exporters of tulips and bulbs of all sorts. As we live at the border with the Netherlands I go there often for shopping and flowers , food and clothes are a lot cheaper in The Netherlands. Alas alas in this covid era we are not allowed to cross the border just for shopping and I miss that a lot.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND !!

IN BLOOM TODAY

BLUE HYACINTH

These blue hyacinths are in bloom today in my garden. I couldn’t resist putting one in a yellow vase, I love the combination blue and yellow. I just took one flower as they bloom much longer in the garden than in a vase.

After I took this photo I put it in my livingroom on the coffee table, my whole house smell’s like Spring now !

Have a great weekend all !!
